PHILISTIA (PALESTINE). Uncertain mint. Mid 5th century-333 BC. Rb' (Silver, 16 mm, 3.50 g, 9 h), imitating Athens. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet. Rev. Extremely rare, apparently the second known example. Porous, otherwise, very fine.


Before the appearance of this specimen in Triton XXV, this type featuring a horse in the left field was known only from fractional silver issues. The drachms (or Rebāʿ, Rbʿ) therefore count among the great rarities of Philistian coinage.
